Eastern Express - Ankara - Kars - Erzurum Tour
A Journey Through Time with the Eastern Express: Kars - Erzurum (Train + Plane)
The Spirit of the Program
This journey is not just transportation; it is a "reading of history" that begins in the steppes of Ankara and extends to the snow-covered peaks of the East, and from there to the madrasah gates intricately crafted by the Seljuks. On this tour, where we will trace the footsteps of the past with the rhythm of the rails, we will discover Ani, the meeting point of civilizations, and Erzurum, the memory of the East.
* Departure: We will board the nostalgic carriages of the Eastern Express from Ankara Train Station in the evening.
* Journey: Throughout the night, accompanied by the sound of the rails, we will make a transition from the vast steppes of Central Anatolia to the high plateaus of the East. This journey is actually a preparation for breaking away from the modern world and entering the silence of history.
Overnight accommodation on the train.
* Arrival: Arrival in Kars around noon.
* Ani Ruins: Away from the noise of the city, on the banks of the Arpaçay River, we go to Ani, the "City of a Thousand Churches" of the 10th century. In Ani, the most magnificent stop on the Silk Road, the center of the Bagratid Kingdom, and the place where the Seljuks first set foot in Anatolia; we enter the dusty pages of history with the splendor of the Cathedral and the silence of the walls.
* Evening: In the city center of Kars, we explore the melancholic and aesthetic texture of the city by walking among the 19th-century Russian Baltic architecture houses. At dinner, we taste the ancient flavors of the region accompanied by the traditional cuisine of Kars.
